APGNN Overview
Mission and Goals
The Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Nurses was founded in 1989 by a group committed to improving the educational opportunities for nurses caring for children with gastrointestinal disorders. With the generous support of the members of NASPGHAN (North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition) the organization has grown from 25 to nearly 500 members representing nursing colleagues from the United States and Canada.
Mission
The mission of the Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Nurses (APGNN) is to be the recognized leaders in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition nursing and family education by our members, physicians, and healthcare consumers.
Objectives
- Educate, stimulate, and recognize excellence in pediatric GI evidence-based practice
- Build interest, confidence, and competence in pediatric GI nursing research
- Maximize the effectiveness of our organizational structure and function
Goals
- Promote nursing research and publication of findings.
- Promote education for patients, families, nurses, allied health professionals, and physicians.
- Establish standards of practice for pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition care providers
- Create a pediatric GI, hepatology, and nutrition network.
- Support role advancement through attendance and participation in conferences, committees, and development of teaching materials.
